Many people are starting to work from home or telecommuting more often these days as companies look for ways to reduce overhead and increase productivity. If you are setting up a home office then you have a lot to think about besides just getting your work done. Here are some things to consider...
-A quiet space with limited distractions is the first thing you need to have is a space for work and work only. If the dog or your kids can easily get in front of you when you should be working then your space isn't great for working. You need to be able to close your door and put a sign up that says 'Do Not Enter, Disturb, or Bother While Working'. This will give you enough quiet time to focus on being productive.
-The lighting in your work space should be calm and controllable. You don't need a spot light on your desk to get work done but you shouldn't try to work by the light of a candle either. Many people like a desk light coming from the opposite side that they write with. Try to find a soft light that doesn't cause eye strain.
-Your office chair is the key to being highly productive as you will spend many hours sitting and you need something that is comfortable and supportive. An
office leather chair is a great place to start since the leather surface is very durable and will look good in any space. Some of the latest
executive chairs have multiple ergonomic adjustments that will allow you to find a comfortable position as you start working then adjust the support as the day goes on.
-A good desk should have build in storage and be the right work height so you don't have any extra strain on your body. Getting your computer and keyboard at the right working height will make you less tired so you can get more work done. Consider a desk with some drawers to keep extra files on hand or add a small filing cabinet to round out your office.
